PMD Forecasts Rain and Thunderstorms in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Other Regions
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in several parts of the country from June 16 to June 20 due to a weather system affecting upper and central regions.
According to the PMD, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the upper parts of Pakistan from June 16, while moisture from the Arabian Sea is also likely to contribute to changing weather conditions across multiple areas.
Rain Expected in Islamabad and Punjab
Islamabad and Rawalpindi are expected to receive intermittent rainfall during the forecast period. Similar weather conditions are likely in Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Okara, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, and several other districts of Punjab.
The PMD stated that rainfall may occur with occasional breaks, while some locations could experience stronger thunderstorms and localized heavy showers.
Forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in various areas of Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, and Mirpur from June 16 to June 22.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, weather activity is forecast from June 18 to June 22, affecting districts such as Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Astore, Diamir, Ghizer, and Ghanche.
Weather Outlook for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh
Several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Chitral, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan, are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms during the coming days.
In Balochistan, weather activity is likely in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Khuzdar, Sibbi, Dera Bugti, and surrounding areas.
Parts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, and Shaheed Benazirabad, may also receive rainfall. Light rain accompanied by dusty winds is expected in Karachi and nearby areas.
Advisory for Residents
The PMD has advised residents to stay informed about local weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms.
Authorities noted that heavy rainfall in some urban areas could lead to temporary water accumulation on roads, while hilly regions may experience travel disruptions due to changing weather conditions.
