Punjab Approves ‘OxyGenix Tree’ Technology to Help Tackle Smog

Punjab authorities have approved the deployment of an innovative bio-artificial “OxyGenix Tree” system as part of ongoing efforts to reduce smog and improve air quality across the province.

According to officials and developers, the technology has received certification from the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after evaluation of its performance as a potential air-quality improvement solution.

The system, developed by a private company, is designed to absorb carbon dioxide and other airborne particles while increasing oxygen levels in its surrounding environment. It uses a combination of biological processes and digital monitoring tools to track air quality in real time.

Supporters of the project say the system can continuously monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) and provide data to relevant monitoring teams, allowing authorities to respond more effectively to pollution levels.

The initiative has been approved for phased deployment in major urban areas, with initial installations planned in public and commercial locations, including shopping centres and busy city zones.

Officials say the technology may complement existing environmental measures, particularly in densely populated areas where traditional plantation efforts face space limitations.

The project is part of broader efforts by the provincial government to explore modern and science-based approaches to address rising air pollution and seasonal smog challenges.

Environmental experts describe such initiatives as part of a growing trend toward combining technology and urban planning to improve air quality and support sustainable city development.
