Report: Imran Sohail

Australia has appointed Caitlin Eynon as captain of the national women’s baseball team ahead of the Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage in Rockford, Illinois.

The 23-year-old athlete will lead the Emeralds as they prepare to compete against some of the world’s top-ranked teams in the international tournament scheduled for July.

Eynon has established herself as one of Australia’s leading baseball players through consistent performances at both national and international levels. She previously represented Australia at the Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage and has earned multiple individual honors during her domestic career.

Among her recent achievements are top pitching and defensive awards at the Australian Women’s Baseball Championships, along with a Most Valuable Player recognition in 2026.

Australia manager Jason Pospishil praised Eynon’s leadership qualities, highlighting her commitment, professionalism and team-first approach.

Eynon expressed her excitement about the opportunity, describing the captaincy as a significant milestone in her baseball journey. She emphasized the importance of teamwork, preparation and maintaining a positive mindset heading into the tournament.

The Australian squad will travel to the United States ahead of the competition for a five-day training camp. The camp is expected to help players adapt to local conditions, adjust to the time zone and participate in preparation matches before the tournament begins.

Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage

The Women’s Baseball World Cup is being held in a two-stage format, with 12 teams divided into two groups. The top three teams from each group will advance to the next phase of the competition.

Australia will compete in Group A alongside strong international opponents, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong China and South Korea.

The second group will feature Japan, Venezuela, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Great Britain and the Philippines.

Looking Ahead

The Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals are scheduled to take place in 2027, where the top-performing teams from the group stages will compete for the world title.

With a talented roster, experienced coaching staff and a new captain at the helm, Australia will be aiming to make a strong impression and secure a place among the tournament’s top teams.
