Ten-Man England Defeat Mexico to Reach FIFA World Cup Quarter-finals

England secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico on Sunday to advance to the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals, overcoming a determined second-half comeback while playing with 10 men for much of the final period.
The result ended Mexico’s impressive tournament run and booked England’s place in the last eight, where they will face Norway.
Bellingham Gives England a Fast Start
England made an excellent start to the Round of 16 contest as Jude Bellingham scored twice in quick succession.
His first goal came after converting a cross from Bukayo Saka before adding a second moments later by finishing a pass from captain Harry Kane, giving England an early two-goal advantage.
Mexico Respond Before Halftime
Mexico reduced the deficit before the break through Julián Quiñones.
The forward reacted quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty area and found the net, giving the home supporters renewed hope heading into the second half.
England Reduced to 10 Players
England faced a major challenge after defender Jarrell Quansah was shown a red card following a VAR review, forcing the team to play much of the second half with 10 players.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, England extended their lead when Harry Kane converted a penalty after Anthony Gordon was fouled by goalkeeper Raúl Rangel inside the penalty area.
Late Pressure from Mexico
Mexico continued to push forward and earned a penalty after another VAR review confirmed a foul inside the box.
Raúl Jiménez converted from the spot to bring the score to 3-2, setting up a tense finish.
England, however, defended their lead during the closing stages and held on to secure qualification for the quarter-finals.
Quarter-final Against Norway
The match experienced a one-hour delay before kickoff because of adverse weather conditions around the stadium.
With the victory, England moves into the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals, where it will face Norway in Miami.
