Punjab Government Clarifies Policy on Tuition Centers, Denies Reports of Province-Wide Ban
LAHORE: The Punjab government has clarified that it has not announced a blanket ban on tuition centers across the province, rejecting social media reports claiming that all private academies operating in residential areas will be shut down.
Rana Sikandar Hayat said the reports circulating online are inaccurate and that the government’s action is limited to unregistered tuition academies that fail to meet required safety standards.
Action Focused on Unregistered Academies
According to the Education Minister, tuition centers that do not obtain the required fitness certificate will face closure starting in September.
He explained that the government’s objective is to improve safety and ensure that educational institutions comply with the necessary legal and structural requirements.
Registration Process Underway
The minister said the registration of tuition academies falls under the authority of the relevant Deputy Commissioners.
He added that a province-wide survey is currently being conducted to identify tuition centers and verify whether they meet registration and safety requirements.
Government Rejects Viral Social Media Claims
The clarification follows the circulation of social media posts claiming that the Punjab government had ordered the closure of all tuition centers after a recent incident involving the collapse of a building housing a tuition academy in Lahore.
Officials emphasized that no such province-wide decision has been taken. Instead, enforcement measures will apply only to institutions that fail to complete the required registration process or obtain mandatory fitness certification.
The minister’s office also reiterated that registered tuition centers complying with government regulations and safety standards can continue operating as usual.
