Suthra Punjab Workers Accused of Collecting Sanitation Fees Without Receipts

Residents in some areas have raised concerns over alleged unauthorized collection of sanitation fees by workers associated with the Punjab government’s Suthra Punjab initiative.

According to local residents, some sanitation workers were demanding a monthly payment of Rs. 200 but were allegedly not providing official bills or receipts. Residents claimed that those who requested proper documentation were asked to make direct cash payments instead.

The complaints reportedly came from residents of Basti Umarpuri, Adda Chakrala, Chak 97/WB, and surrounding areas.

One resident, Mian Abdul Aziz, alleged that a dispute occurred when he refused to pay without receiving an official receipt. He claimed that the situation escalated and that he faced inappropriate behavior when he tried to record the incident on his mobile phone.

Residents also expressed concerns that waste collection facilities, including official garbage bins or drums, had not been provided in some areas despite the collection of sanitation charges.

They have requested Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, district authorities, and relevant departments to investigate the matter and ensure accountability if any wrongdoing is confirmed.

Meanwhile, Suthra Punjab Programme District In-Charge Rao Khalil clarified that workers are not permitted to collect sanitation fees directly in cash without issuing official bills or receipts.

He stated that all sanitation charges must be collected through the department’s approved billing system and that violations of official procedures would result in strict disciplinary action against those responsible.
