Pakistan Customs Seizes Fake Goods Worth Rs. 7.7 Billion During FY2025-26
Pakistan Customs intensified its efforts against counterfeit and pirated products during the fiscal year 2025-26, recording a significant increase in enforcement actions and seizing fake goods with an estimated value of Rs. 7.7 billion.
According to the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement (IPRE), Customs registered 201 intellectual property rights (IPR) seizure and forfeiture cases during FY2025-26. This represents a 24 percent increase compared to 162 cases recorded in the previous fiscal year.
The confiscated items included counterfeit luxury goods, textiles, automobile parts, cosmetics, footwear, consumer products, and other items found to violate trademark and intellectual property laws.
Pakistan Customs stated that these enforcement operations are intended to protect consumers, support legitimate businesses, and curb the illegal trade of counterfeit products through stronger border controls and effective monitoring.
In addition to enforcement activities, the Directorate General IPRE organized 30 awareness sessions, workshops, and seminars across the country. These events focused on promoting awareness of intellectual property rights and strengthening cooperation among Customs officials, chambers of commerce, importers, exporters, traders, customs clearing agents, rights holders, and other stakeholders.
Director General of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Abdul Qadir Memon said Pakistan Customs will continue enhancing its enforcement capabilities through capacity building, improved risk management, technological advancements, and closer collaboration with national and international partners.
He added that the department remains committed to preventing the import, export, and transit of counterfeit and pirated goods while protecting consumers, encouraging fair competition, and facilitating lawful trade in accordance with Pakistan’s laws and international best practices.
