Saud Shakeel Likely to Rejoin Pakistan Test Squad for West Indies Series

Pakistan middle-order batter Saud Shakeel is expected to return to the national Test squad for the ongoing two-match series against the West Indies, with reports suggesting a late change to the team due to an injury concern.
The potential recall comes as Pakistan prepares for an important away assignment in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27.
Injury Could Open the Door for Return
According to reports, left-handed opener Abdullah Fazal suffered an injury on the eve of the first Test, creating an opportunity for Saud Shakeel to rejoin the squad.
While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to officially confirm the squad adjustment, Shakeel is considered a leading candidate to strengthen the batting lineup.
Shakeel Was Initially Left Out
Saud Shakeel was not included in the original squad for the West Indies tour after a difficult Test series against Bangladesh.
The 30-year-old managed 29 runs in four innings during that series, averaging 7.25, leading to his omission from the initial selection.
His availability for Pakistan’s upcoming Test series against England was also expected to depend on his fitness.
Strong Test Record
Despite his recent struggles, Shakeel has built an impressive record in Test cricket since making his debut in 2022.
In 23 Test matches, he has scored 1,802 runs at an average of 43.95, including four centuries and 10 half-centuries, making him one of Pakistan’s most dependable middle-order batters in the format.
Important World Test Championship Series
The two-match series against the West Indies is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 and carries valuable points for both teams.
The tour also marks the return of Babar Azam as Pakistan’s Test captain, adding further significance to the series.

- Second Test: August 2–6 at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain
