Pakistan Orders Faster Passport Verification for Overseas Citizens

The federal government has directed relevant authorities to speed up the verification of passports and other important documents for overseas Pakistanis.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar issued the instructions while chairing a meeting of the Committee on Passport Rules on Wednesday.

Officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Passport Department and other relevant institutions attended the meeting.

Focus on Faster Verification

During the meeting, Tarar emphasized the importance of improving procedures for overseas Pakistanis, describing them as a valuable national asset.

He directed the authorities to establish an integrated mechanism that can ensure timely verification of travel documents and other essential records.

The minister also called for greater use of electronic systems at the Ministry of Interior to make the verification process faster and more convenient.

One-Window Portal Proposed

Tarar instructed officials to minimize unnecessary human interaction during the verification process and explore digital solutions that can reduce delays.

He also proposed establishing a one-window verification portal through which overseas Pakistanis could access relevant verification services more easily.

The proposed system is aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing the need for applicants to deal with multiple departments.

Changes to Passport Rules Under Consideration

The minister further directed the concerned authorities to prepare proposals for amendments to existing rules and regulations to improve services for overseas Pakistanis.

Officials have been asked to develop a clear procedure and action plan for the proposed changes and present it at the next meeting of the committee.
