Lahore to Get Major Makeover Ahead of Basant 2027
The Punjab government has started preparations for the upcoming Basant Festival 2027, with plans to give Lahore a major beautification makeover and showcase the city’s cultural and historical heritage.
Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin has directed the relevant authorities to finalise a comprehensive beautification and cultural programme for the festival.
Major Roads and Heritage Sites to Be Decorated
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) will lead the city’s decoration and beautification activities.
Under the proposed plan, major roads, entry points and prominent heritage locations across Lahore will feature colourful lighting, floral arrangements, themed floats and other cultural displays.
PHA Director General Ahmad Usman Javed briefed the minister on the preparations during a meeting held on Wednesday.
Bilal Yasin said the government wants Basant to become a major cultural celebration that offers quality entertainment to residents while highlighting Lahore’s distinctive traditions.
Walled City Cultural Event Planned
The minister said Lahore’s historic identity and cultural heritage will remain at the centre of the festival.
Authorities have also been asked to submit proposals for a major cultural programme in the Walled City of Lahore, with the aim of creating a prominent attraction for visitors and residents.
The beautification plan is expected to include colourful kites, flowers, decorative lights and cultural installations at various locations.
Lahori Food and Live Performances
Traditional food stalls showcasing popular Lahori cuisine are also planned as part of the celebrations.
The festival programme is expected to feature live performances by local musicians and artists, adding a cultural and entertainment component to the event.
Special floats and exhibitions will also be arranged at different locations across the city.
PHA to Lead Beautification Drive
Bilal Yasin directed the PHA to carry out beautification work across Lahore and coordinate the arrangements for the festival.
The provincial government said the broader objective is to restore the city’s cultural vibrancy and provide residents with safe, healthy and quality entertainment during Basant 2027.
The preparations will focus on presenting Lahore’s traditional culture and heritage while giving the city a festive appearance ahead of the celebrations.
