Six Teams Battle for Two Finals Spots at WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Oklahoma City

The race for qualification to the 2027 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals begins Saturday as six teams compete at Devon Park in Oklahoma City for two available qualification places.
The United States, Netherlands, China, Mexico, New Zealand and Brazil will take part in the five-day group-stage tournament, with the top two teams securing their places in next year’s Finals in Redcliffe, Australia.
The competition gets underway on Saturday, September 12, bringing together teams with different levels of experience but the same objective: reaching the World Cup Finals.
USA Target Tournament Victory
For hosts and world No. 2 United States, simply qualifying is not enough.
Head coach Patty Gasso has set her sights on winning the tournament, with the American squad combining experienced international players and newcomers looking to make their mark.
Gasso said the USA has high expectations and wants to finish the tournament as champions.
The American coach also pointed to pitching, hitting and defence as key strengths of her team.
Playing on home soil in Oklahoma City could provide another advantage, with the team expecting strong support from local fans.
The tournament will also give several younger or less experienced players an opportunity to gain valuable international experience alongside established members of the squad.
Netherlands Focus on Game-by-Game Approach
The Netherlands enter the tournament ranked sixth in the world and will be looking to secure one of the two available qualification spots.
Head coach Saskia Kosterink has adopted a measured approach, stressing the importance of concentrating on each game rather than looking too far ahead.
For the Dutch team, the main objective is clear: qualify for the 2027 Finals.
Kosterink believes the team must remain adaptable throughout the competition and focus on making the right adjustments from one pitch and one game to the next.
Six Teams, Two Qualification Places
The Oklahoma City group features a mix of established softball nations and teams aiming to make their mark on the international stage.
The participating teams are:
- United States — World No. 2
- Netherlands — World No. 6
- Mexico — World No. 7
- China — World No. 8
- Brazil — World No. 17
- New Zealand — World No. 23
Over five days of competition, every team will be aiming to finish among the top two and earn direct qualification for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.
With the USA hosting the group and entering as one of the leading teams in the world, attention will be on whether the home side can turn its strong expectations into a tournament victory.
At the same time, the Netherlands, China, Mexico, Brazil and New Zealand will be determined to challenge the hosts and secure one of the two coveted places in the Finals.
