PIA Flight to Manchester Declares Emergency After Passenger Falls Ill

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight traveling from Islamabad to Manchester declared an emergency shortly before reaching its destination after a passenger experienced a medical problem during the flight.

Flight PK-701 was operating over the North Sea when the pilots activated the international emergency transponder code 7700 at around 7:52 p.m. Pakistan time. The aircraft was approximately 30 minutes away from its scheduled arrival at Manchester Airport.

Passenger Receives Medical Assistance

The emergency was declared after the passenger’s condition reportedly worsened and medical assistance was required.

The aircraft continued toward Manchester while remaining under the emergency code, allowing airport authorities to give it priority for landing.

Emergency response teams and paramedics were already positioned at Manchester Airport when the aircraft arrived. Medical personnel subsequently boarded the plane to assess and assist the affected passenger.

RAF Denies Fighter Jet Escort Reports

Meanwhile, the British Royal Air Force (RAF) rejected reports circulating on social media that the PIA aircraft had been intercepted or escorted by a fighter jet.

The claims reportedly emerged after flight PK-701 transmitted the emergency code. However, the RAF said there was no fighter-jet escort associated with the incident.

No Security Threat Reported

The emergency was related to the passenger’s medical condition and was not linked to any security threat involving the aircraft.

The flight was able to reach Manchester Airport, where the passenger was provided with medical assistance following landing.
