The United States and Mexico have secured qualification for the 2027 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals, while China earned a Wild Card spot after the conclusion of the Group Oklahoma City competition at Devon Park.
The three teams will join Australia, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico and Chinese Taipei in the eight-team Finals tournament, which will be held in Redcliffe, Australia, next year.
USA Seal Qualification With Comfortable Win
The host United States became the first team from the Oklahoma City group to secure a place in the Finals after defeating China 7-0 in six innings.
Maya Brady was the standout performer for the American side, hitting three home runs and driving in five runs.
The USA made a fast start, scoring four runs in the opening inning. Brady and Tiare Jennings both hit two-run homers to put the hosts in control.
Brady added another solo home run in the second inning as the United States extended its advantage to 5-0.
Strong Pitching Helps USA Shut Out China
The American pitching staff maintained control throughout the game.
Karlyn Pickens delivered three scoreless innings before Rachel Garcia took over and retired all nine batters she faced, recording six strikeouts.
The USA completed a no-hitter against China, with Brady ending the contest in the sixth inning with her third home run of the game.
Her two-run shot to right-centre field gave the United States the margin required to finish the game early.
Mexico Defeat Netherlands to Reach Decisive Game
Mexico also advanced after recording a 7-0 victory over the Netherlands in five innings.
The teams remained scoreless through the first four innings before Mexico produced a seven-run burst in the fifth.
Suzy Brookshire provided the major highlight by hitting a grand slam, while pitcher Mariah Mazon completed a three-hit shutout.
The victory sent Mexico into the decisive qualification game against China.
Mexico Secure Second Qualification Spot
Mexico then defeated China in the final game of the Oklahoma City group to claim the second available qualification place for the 2027 Finals.
China finished third in the group, but its position was enough to earn the second Wild Card and complete the Finals lineup.
As a result, USA, Mexico and China will join Australia, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico and Chinese Taipei at the eight-team World Cup Finals in Redcliffe.
New Zealand Finish Fifth
Earlier in the day, New Zealand defeated Brazil 7-0 in six innings in the placement match.
The result saw New Zealand finish fifth in the Oklahoma City group, while Brazil ended the competition behind them.
