US Drone Firm Powerus Signs MoU With Pakistan Army
US-based drone company Powerus has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Army that includes an initial order related to unmanned aerial systems, according to company co-founder Brett Velicovich.
Speaking to Reuters, Velicovich said the agreement covers technology in the unmanned aerial systems category. However, the company did not disclose the specific equipment involved or the financial value of the initial order, citing security and confidentiality concerns.
Powerus Delegation Meets Army Chief
A Powerus delegation led by Robert Bret Velicovich met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
According to Pakistan’s military media wing, the meeting focused on developments in defence technology as well as potential cooperation in defence procurement, production and long-term capacity building.
The military’s public statement about the meeting did not specifically mention the MoU or the initial order reported by Powerus.
Potential Technology Cooperation in Pakistan
Powerus said it is also exploring opportunities to develop or manufacture some of its technology in Pakistan.
Velicovich said the company is considering a joint technology relationship that could combine US-based technology with capabilities available in Pakistan.
Powerus provides aerial and maritime drone systems for military and industrial applications.
The company has also indicated an interest in expanding its engagement with Pakistan’s defence and technology sectors.
Powerus and Aureus Greenway Merger
The development comes as Powerus is expected to merge with publicly traded Aureus Greenway Holdings. The companies have said they expect the transaction to be completed in early October.
According to US regulatory filings cited by Reuters, an investment fund associated with Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump is expected to hold a 9.9% beneficial ownership stake in the combined company following the merger.
Powerus CEO Andrew Fox has said the Trump family members have no involvement in the company’s business operations or contract negotiations.
A spokesperson for Donald Trump Jr. has similarly described him as a passive investor and said he had no role in negotiating, procuring or executing the Pakistan agreement.
Growing Defence Technology Engagement
The agreement comes as Pakistan and the United States continue exploring opportunities for cooperation in defence technology and other areas.
The recent meeting between Pakistan’s military leadership and Powerus focused on procurement, production, technological developments and capacity building, according to the ISPR statement.
Details regarding the initial order, including its exact size, equipment specifications and financial value, have not been publicly disclosed.
