USA Win NORCECA Championship Title

The United States, Canada and Cuba have secured qualification for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup after finishing on the podium at the NORCECA Continental Championship in Moncton, Canada.

The United States won the gold medal, Canada claimed silver, while Cuba finished third. The three teams earned World Cup places through the NORCECA continental qualification pathway.

The result also saw the same three nations occupy the podium positions they achieved at the previous edition of the championship in 2023.

USA Defeat Canada in Five-Set Final

The United States defeated Canada in a closely contested five-set final to claim the NORCECA title.

The Americans prevailed 3-2, with the set scores reading 25-19, 26-24, 25-27, 17-25, 15-13.

After winning the opening two sets, the USA saw Canada fight back to level the match at 2-2. The Americans eventually held their nerve in the deciding set to secure the championship.

The victory marked the 11th NORCECA men’s volleyball title for the United States.

Anderson and Hanes Lead USA Attack

Matt Anderson and Jake Hanes were key contributors for the United States in the final, with both players finishing with 18 points.

Anderson recorded 17 kills and one ace, while Hanes produced 15 kills, two blocks and one ace.

Canada’s Xander Ketrzynski was the highest scorer in the gold medal match. The Canadian opposite finished with 26 points, including 25 kills and one block.

Cuba Claim Third Place and Final World Cup Spot

Cuba secured the third and final World Cup qualification place by defeating the Dominican Republic in the bronze medal match.

Cuba completed a straight-sets victory, winning 25-22, 25-19, 26-24.

The result confirmed Cuba as the third NORCECA team to qualify for the 2027 Volleyball Men’s World Cup.

Olympic Qualification Race Continues

While the World Cup places have been decided, another important qualification opportunity remains in Moncton.

The tournament will also determine a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games through a separate playoff involving teams from the NORCECA Championship.

The top four finishers initially earned the right to compete for the Olympic berth. However, the United States has already secured an Olympic place as the host nation.

As a result, Mexico will also enter the Olympic qualification competition after finishing fifth in the championship.

Mexico Defeat Puerto Rico

Mexico secured fifth place by defeating Puerto Rico 3-0, with set scores of 26-24, 33-31 and 25-16.

The result kept Mexico in contention for the Olympic qualification spot despite not finishing among the top four teams in the main NORCECA Championship standings.

The Olympic qualification semifinals are scheduled for Friday, with the winners advancing to Saturday’s decisive match. The winner of that final will earn a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
