Chicago Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong continued his outstanding season with two home runs in an 8-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, strengthening his growing case for National League MVP consideration.
Crow-Armstrong Breaks Cubs Home Run Record
Crow-Armstrong hit his 43rd home run in the third inning, surpassing Billy Williams’ franchise record for the most home runs by a left-handed hitter in Cubs history.
He then added another solo homer in the seventh inning to reach 44 for the season. The performance marked his seventh multi-home-run game of the 2026 campaign.
The 24-year-old finished the night 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored as Chicago secured an important win.
Cubs Star Nears Historic 40-40 Season
Crow-Armstrong is also approaching a rare 40-40 season, with his power hitting complemented by 37 stolen bases.
He entered the game just one home run behind Philadelphia’s Kyle Schwarber for the Major League home run lead. He is also batting .283 with 105 RBIs and 29 doubles.
His strong offensive numbers have been combined with highly regarded defensive work in center field, making him one of the most productive players in the National League this season.
Wrigley Field Crowd Shows MVP Support
The Wrigley Field crowd repeatedly showed its appreciation for Crow-Armstrong, chanting “M-V-Pete” during the game.
Fans celebrated after both home runs and his RBI triple. Even after he struck out in the eighth inning, he received a standing ovation from the home crowd.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell praised the young star’s remarkable season, saying performances of this level are rarely seen during a baseball career.
Cubs Keep Wild-Card Push Alive
The victory was important for Chicago’s playoff hopes. The Cubs remained half a game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the National League’s final wild-card position.
Alex Bregman also produced a major offensive performance, going 3-for-4 with a home run, triple and four RBIs.
Starting pitcher Shota Imanaga allowed one run over six innings while striking out eight and issuing no walks.
Crow-Armstrong Focused on Team Success
Despite the growing attention surrounding his individual performance, Crow-Armstrong said he continues to keep things simple and relies on the support around him.
