Islamabad to Host International Women’s Tennis Futures Tournament in October

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad is set to host an international women’s tennis tournament from October 12 to 17, with around 40 international players expected to participate alongside emerging Pakistani athletes.

The World Tennis Women’s 15,000 Futures Tennis Tournament is being sponsored by the Junaid Family Foundation (JFF) and will be organised in collaboration with the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF).

The event has been sanctioned by World Tennis and is expected to provide Pakistani female players with an opportunity to compete against international opponents on home soil.

JFF said its support for the tournament is part of its broader focus on women’s health, wellbeing, empowerment and development.

Ansir Junaid, Chairman of the Junaid Family Foundation, said the organisation’s work supporting women goes beyond healthcare initiatives.

He said the tournament would provide support to athletes while also drawing attention to the importance of health and wellbeing for women and girls in Pakistan.

The foundation has previously supported various healthcare and development projects in the country, including programmes focused on maternal and child nutrition.

Junaid also noted that the tournament comes during an important period for women’s tennis in Pakistan, with another Futures event and the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania competition also scheduled.

The Islamabad tournament is expected to give local players valuable competitive experience and an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition.
