Pakistan Approves Interest-Free Hajj Savings Scheme for Pilgrims

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a Shariah-compliant, interest-free Hajj savings scheme aimed at helping Pakistanis plan and save for the annual pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

The initiative will allow people intending to perform Hajj to put aside money regularly to meet their pilgrimage expenses, making financial planning easier over time.

The proposal was jointly prepared by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Directorate of National Savings.

The three institutions will work together to develop and implement the savings plan.

Government Departments Coordinate on Hajj Plan

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Friday to discuss the proposed scheme and its implementation.

Federal Secretary Abrar Ahmed Mirza chaired the meeting, which was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Central Directorate of National Savings and the Hajj Wing.

Officials discussed the initiative as part of efforts to establish a structured savings option for prospective pilgrims.

The scheme is designed to follow Islamic financial principles by offering an interest-free approach to saving for Hajj.

Application Process and Eligibility Details Awaited

The government has yet to announce the complete details of the Hajj savings scheme.

According to an official, further information will be shared regarding the application procedure, eligibility criteria, savings period and other features.

Details about the digital services associated with the plan are also expected to be announced later.

Until the government releases the formal guidelines, prospective participants will need to wait for confirmation of how to open an account, make contributions and access their savings.

Scheme Aims to Help Pakistanis Prepare for Hajj

Hajj requires pilgrims to plan for several expenses, including travel, accommodation and other arrangements associated with the journey.

The proposed savings scheme aims to give Pakistanis an organised way to prepare financially in advance rather than arranging the entire amount at once.

Its interest-free structure is intended to provide an option for people seeking a savings arrangement consistent with Shariah principles.
