Paris Saint-Germain secured an impressive 4-2 victory over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, while Bradley Barcola scored his first goals for Liverpool with a hat-trick in a 6-3 win against LASK in Austria.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid staged a dramatic late comeback to beat AS Roma 4-3, while Aston Villa recorded a commanding 6-0 victory over Fenerbahce.
PSG Punish Manchester City
PSG took control at the Etihad Stadium, scoring three times before the half-hour mark through Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha.
Manchester City responded in the second half as Erling Haaland scored twice, taking his Champions League tally to four goals this season. However, Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG’s two-goal advantage with another strike.
City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma later saved a penalty from Ferran Torres, but the home side could not recover from the deficit.
The defeat came during a difficult period for City following a verdict finding the club guilty of serious breaches of Premier League financial rules, leaving it facing the possibility of significant sanctions.
PSG coach Luis Enrique praised his team’s first-half performance but acknowledged that matches at this level can change quickly. The defending champions have won both of their Champions League matches this season, scoring 10 goals, and will face Barcelona next week.
Barcola Shines in Liverpool Victory
Bradley Barcola delivered a standout performance for Liverpool, scoring three times in a 6-3 victory over Austrian side LASK at the Raiffeisen Arena.
After Ronald Araujo opened the scoring, Barcola found the net three times. Jeremie Frimpong and Lewis Koumas also scored as Liverpool built a four-goal advantage.
LASK mounted a second-half response, scoring three times in 15 minutes through Robert Ljubicic and two goals from Florian Flecker, but Liverpool held on for the win.
Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola praised Barcola’s achievement, noting the difficulty of scoring a Champions League hat-trick.
Real Madrid Stage Late Comeback
Real Madrid produced a remarkable finish to defeat AS Roma 4-3 in Italy after trailing 3-1 inside the final 10 minutes.
Marten de Roon and a brace from Donyell Malen had put Roma in a strong position. Kylian Mbappe also scored on his 100th Champions League appearance.
Carlos Espi reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute before Endrick equalised. Antonio Rudiger then scored a last-minute winner to complete Madrid’s comeback.
Aston Villa Dominate Fenerbahce
Aston Villa celebrated a historic European result with a 6-0 demolition of Fenerbahce at Villa Park.
Johan Manzambi opened the scoring on his 21st birthday, while Nicolas Jackson added two goals before half-time.
Ross Barkley scored twice after the break, including a penalty, before Tammy Abraham completed the emphatic victory.
The results delivered an eventful night of Champions League action, with PSG strengthening their title defence, Barcola making an immediate impact for Liverpool and Real Madrid demonstrating their ability to fight back under pressure.
