ATC Announces Verdict in May 9 Case Involving PTI Leaders
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has announced its verdict in a case related to the May 9, 2023 incidents involving the burning of police vehicles.
According to the court’s decision, senior PTI leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Mahmood ur Rashid, and Ejaz Chaudhry have each been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Meanwhile, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was acquitted of all charges in the case.
The verdict was delivered by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, where several of the accused were present during the proceedings.
The case involved 22 individuals and was linked to allegations surrounding the burning of police vehicles during the unrest that followed events on May 9, 2023.
The court reserved its decision after hearing final arguments from both sides. During the trial, the prosecution presented testimony from multiple witnesses before the case moved to the final stage.
The verdict marks a significant development in one of the cases arising from the May 9 incidents, which have been the subject of ongoing legal proceedings in Pakistan.
