China Launches First Aircraft Dismantling Project in Hainan Free Trade Port

China has launched its first aircraft dismantling project in the Hainan Free Trade Port, marking a new step in the development of the region’s aviation maintenance industry.

The project was officially inaugurated at the Hainan FTP One-Stop Aircraft Maintenance Base and is being carried out by Grand China Aviation Maintenance Co Ltd under HNA Technic.

Aircraft dismantling is a key part of the aviation recycling and maintenance industry, involving the safe disassembly of retired aircraft and the recovery, testing, and refurbishment of usable components. The process helps extend the life cycle of aviation parts while supporting environmental sustainability and cost efficiency in the aviation sector.

Officials said the new project completes an important part of Hainan’s aviation maintenance value chain, strengthening its position in aircraft servicing and related industries.

Hainan’s strategic location in southern China, along with its access to international trade routes across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, is seen as a major advantage for aviation services and logistics.

The Hainan Free Trade Port has introduced a range of supportive policies, including expanded zero-tariff measures and simplified customs procedures, aimed at encouraging investment in aircraft maintenance and component re-manufacturing.

The island-wide special customs operations, fully implemented in December 2025, have further improved the movement of goods and reduced operational costs for businesses involved in aviation services.

Industry experts note that the global market for reused and refurbished aircraft components continues to expand, driven by demand for cost-effective and sustainable aviation solutions.

With this project, Hainan aims to strengthen its role as a regional hub for aircraft maintenance, repair, and recycling within the global aviation industry.
