Mpox Cases Rise to 36 in Sindh After New Infection Reported in Karachi
Health authorities in Sindh have reported another case of mpox in Karachi, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the province to 36.
According to health sources, a 35-year-old man from Landhi, who works as a driver and has no history of foreign travel, tested positive for the virus. He is currently receiving treatment at the Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital & Research Centre (SIDH&RC).
Officials confirmed that this is the eighth mpox case being treated at the facility and the 11th reported in Karachi. A separate case involving a 40-year-old resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar was also confirmed a day earlier.
Health data indicates that multiple mpox-related deaths have been reported in Sindh this year, while earlier outbreaks were recorded in different districts, including Khairpur and Karachi.
Mpox is a viral zoonotic disease that can spread through close contact with an infected person, contaminated materials, or infected animals. It may also be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth.
Common symptoms include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, headache, muscle pain, and fatigue. While most patients recover fully, some cases can become severe, according to health authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Health officials continue to monitor the situation and have urged the public to follow precautionary measures and seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
