Chwalinska Advances to French Open Semifinals After Stunning Run in Paris

Unseeded Polish player Maja Chwalinska continued her impressive breakthrough at the French Open by defeating No. 22 seed Anna Kalinskaya to secure a place in the semifinals at Roland Garros.

Chwalinska won the match 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 on Wednesday, extending her remarkable run after coming through the qualifying rounds. Her performance marks a significant milestone in her career, as she had not previously progressed beyond the second round at any Grand Slam tournament.

With this result, Chwalinska becomes only the second Polish woman to reach the French Open semifinals, following four-time champion Iga Swiatek.

The match concluded on a decisive point when Kalinskaya’s return went long, allowing Chwalinska to seal victory after a closely contested rally. She reacted emotionally after the win, acknowledging the intensity of competing at the highest level.

Speaking after the match, Chwalinska described the experience as challenging but said she remained focused on her game plan despite the pressure of facing top-ranked opponents.

“I’m playing against the best players in the world,” she said. “I try not to compare myself to them.”

Chwalinska will face either top seed Aryna Sabalenka or No. 25 Diana Shnaider in the semifinals, depending on the outcome of their quarterfinal match.
