Train Service Disrupted After Explosion Near Jacobabad; No Injuries Reported
SUKKUR: Train operations near Jacobabad were temporarily disrupted on Wednesday after an explosion occurred on a section of the railway track, causing four carriages of the Jaffer Express to derail. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all passengers were safely assisted by authorities.
According to officials, the incident took place near a local cattle market when the train was en route to Quetta. The explosion caused damage to a portion of the rail track and affected the structural integrity of one of the carriages. Authorities confirmed that the derailment was caused by an explosive device fitted to the track.
Immediate Response and Passenger Support
Police and railway officials, including Jacobabad SSP Saddam Hussain Khaskheli, reached the site shortly after the incident. Emergency services and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) began an investigation to determine the nature and source of the device. Preliminary findings suggest that a remotely operated device containing approximately five to six kilograms of explosives was used.
In a swift response, Pakistan Railways arranged replacement transport for passengers, including coaches and vans, ensuring that all travelers reached their destinations without inconvenience. Food and assistance were also provided to those affected.
Investigations Underway
Officials confirmed that a team of railway technicians from Rohri had started work to restore the damaged section of the track and recover the derailed bogies. Full restoration of the line is expected shortly.
While no arrests had been made and no formal case had been registered at the time of reporting, authorities are continuing investigations. A statement allegedly linked to a banned group circulated on social media shortly after the event, but officials are verifying the authenticity and source of the claim.
