Pakistani professionals can apply for the DAAD EPOS Scholarship to study for a Master’s degree in Environmental Governance at the University of Freiburg in Germany for the 2027-28 academic session.

The scholarship is designed for qualified professionals from developing countries and provides financial support during the study period. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of €992, along with insurance coverage and a travel allowance under DAAD rules.

DAAD EPOS scholarship recipients at the University of Freiburg are also exempt from the €1,500 per-semester study fee normally applicable to non-EU students.

Applications for the October 2027 intake opened on June 15, 2026, and the deadline is October 15, 2026.

What the Scholarship Covers

Successful DAAD EPOS Master’s scholars receive €992 per month throughout the approved funding period.

The scholarship also provides support for health, accident and personal liability insurance. A travel allowance is also available according to DAAD conditions, although it may not be provided if travel costs are already covered by another organization or the applicant’s home country.

Depending on individual circumstances, additional financial assistance may also be available, including a monthly rent allowance and support for accompanying family members.

Students receiving the DAAD EPOS scholarship at the University of Freiburg are exempt from the €1,500-per-semester study fee charged to non-EU students.

Eligibility for Pakistani Applicants

The DAAD EPOS program is aimed at young professionals from eligible developing and newly industrialized countries, including Pakistan.

Applicants must have completed an academic degree that is no more than six years old at the time of application. They must also have at least two years of relevant professional experience after completing their Bachelor’s degree.

Internships and voluntary work are generally not counted toward the required professional experience.

The University of Freiburg also notes that academic teaching or research employment normally does not qualify as relevant professional experience, except in specific circumstances.

Academic Requirements

Candidates are expected to have an above-average academic record and generally need to be within the upper third of their graduating class for the DAAD EPOS selection process.

For admission to the MSc Environmental Governance program, applicants normally need a relevant Bachelor’s degree with a grade equivalent to 2.5 or better under the German grading system.
