Sindh Government Issues High Alert Ahead of Expected Monsoon Rains
The Sindh government has placed district administrations across the province on high alert as forecasts indicate the possibility of widespread monsoon rainfall in the coming days.
The directive was issued on the instructions of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who asked all relevant departments to remain fully prepared and take precautionary measures to protect lives and property.
Rain and Thunderstorm Forecast
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), weather forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicate that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea, along with a western weather system, are expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy downpours to several districts of Sindh.
District Administrations Directed to Stay Prepared
The chief minister has instructed:
- Deputy commissioners and district administrations to remain on high alert.
- Municipal authorities to ensure drainage systems are functioning properly.
- Irrigation, health, rescue, and local government departments to maintain full preparedness.
- Emergency response teams to be ready for any weather-related situation.
Officials have also been directed to closely monitor low-lying areas, urban centers, and other vulnerable locations where heavy rainfall could cause disruptions.
Emergency Response Measures Strengthened
Following the government’s directives, the PDMA Sindh has enhanced emergency preparedness by ensuring the availability of machinery, equipment, and trained personnel for rapid response operations.
Emergency resources have been positioned at response centers in Karachi, Jamshoro, and Sukkur to enable timely action if heavy rainfall leads to flooding or other emergencies.
Focus on Public Safety
The Sindh government has emphasized that protecting human life, livestock, public infrastructure, and essential services remains the top priority during the monsoon season.
District administrations have been instructed to respond promptly to any emergency caused by heavy rainfall, urban flooding, strong winds, or lightning, while maintaining coordination among all relevant departments throughout the forecast period.
