Govt Announces Reconstruction of Flood-Damaged Kalam Road
The government has announced that reconstruction work on the flood-damaged N-95 Kalam Road in Swat will begin within the next 90 days.
According to a statement presented in the National Assembly, the 133-kilometre Chakdara–Kalam Road suffered significant damage during the 2022 floods, with a particularly affected six-kilometre stretch requiring complete rebuilding.
Officials acknowledged that commuters have faced long-term difficulties due to the damaged road section, which has disrupted travel and transport in the region.
The government said that maintenance efforts have been ongoing in coordination with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to keep the route partially operational in different seasons.
Funds have already been approved for the reconstruction project, while additional allocations have also been made to support repair and restoration work. Further funding has been proposed in the upcoming federal budget.
Authorities stated that technical assessments, site visits, and planning stages have largely been completed, and the project is now moving toward execution.
The most severely damaged portion of the road will undergo full reconstruction rather than basic repairs, aiming to restore safe and reliable connectivity to the popular tourist region of Swat Valley.
