Grounded Rana on the upward curve believes Andre Adams

Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach, Andre Adams, has called for patience as the country’s cricket fans grow excited over rising fast-bowling star, Nahid Rana.

The young speedster from Chapainawabganj has captured attention with his consistent ability to bowl over 150 km/h during the recent Test series against Pakistan. All eyes are now on him ahead of the upcoming India series.

Despite the growing buzz, Adams believes Rana remains grounded and focused on improving his game. “He’s very level-headed,” Adams told Cricbuzz. “From my experience, he doesn’t get carried away with praise. He’s driven to get better and works hard to keep improving.”

Adams emphasized the importance of strength for young fast bowlers like Rana, who generates a lot of force. “He’s putting in the work at the gym to get stronger. Nahid knows what he wants to achieve, and that’s key for a fast bowler,” Adams said.

Rana’s pace is a standout quality, according to Adams, who praised his consistency in bowling fast. “When you’ve got that kind of speed and a good bouncer, you have to use it. Nahid’s pace doesn’t drop, no matter the circumstances, and that’s pretty impressive.”

Adams also pointed out that while Rana’s accuracy is still developing, it’s understandable given that he’s only played three Test matches. “You can’t expect him to bowl like Glenn McGrath after just three Tests. What’s important is that he’s showing steady improvement.”

The coach also highlighted the progress of Hasan Mahmud, who was initially seen as a white-ball specialist but is now turning into a promising red-ball bowler. Adams credited local coaches for Hasan’s transformation, noting that Hasan has been working hard to improve. “We see him as a bowler with world-class potential. The only way to shift from a white-ball bowler to a red-ball bowler is through hard work, and Hasan is both athletic and smart.”

Adams touched on the return of Taskin Ahmed, who had a tough first innings in the Pakistan Test after recovering from health issues. “It’s one thing to train, but it’s another to perform in a match, especially in the heat. Taskin struggled initially, but we expected that. He’s working hard to manage his workload as he is a key bowler across all formats.”

Adams also addressed the absence of left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who was sidelined from the Test series against India due to injury. Shoriful is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is expected to return for the T20I series. “Shoriful has been excellent for us, and it’s always a bonus to have a left-arm pacer. He’s working hard on his recovery and we’re hopeful he’ll be fit for the T20s.”

Adams’ remarks highlight the importance of managing the development and workload of Bangladesh’s pace bowling unit, particularly as young talents like Rana and Mahmud step up to the international stage.
