Punjab Launches Free Deceased Transfer Service in Rawalpindi Hospitals
The Government of Punjab has launched a free deceased transfer service in Rawalpindi to support families in transporting bodies from hospitals to their homes in a respectful and organized manner.
The initiative has been introduced as a pilot project and is being operated by Rescue 1122. Special service counters have been set up at major hospitals, including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, District Headquarters Hospital, and the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology.
Officials said a fleet of dedicated vehicles has been assigned to ensure timely response. On the first day of operations, several deceased individuals were transported from hospitals to their residences under the new service.
The program is currently being tested in selected districts across Punjab, with Rawalpindi among the first cities included in the rollout phase.
Authorities stated that the purpose of the service is to provide immediate support to grieving families by ensuring safe, dignified, and efficient transportation arrangements during difficult times.
If successful, the project may be expanded to other districts in the province as part of broader public service improvements in the healthcare and emergency response system.
