Pakistan Ports Handle Over 179,000 Tons of Cargo in a Day Amid Regional Tensions

Pakistan’s major seaports continued normal operations despite rising uncertainty in global shipping routes, handling a combined 179,335 metric tons of cargo in a single day.

According to port data, the Karachi Port Trust processed 142,182 metric tons of cargo in the past 24 hours, while Port Qasim Authority handled 37,153 metric tons.

Strong Cargo Movement Continues

Despite global maritime concerns, cargo activity remained steady across both ports. Coal shipments formed a major part of imports at Port Qasim, with multiple vessels arriving from countries including Mozambique, Indonesia, and South Africa.

Fuel-related cargo also remained active, including motor gasoline, high sulfur fuel oil, and crude oil shipments, reflecting ongoing energy import demand.

Container and Export Activity

Container handling remained strong at Karachi Port, with significant volumes of both import and export cargo processed.

Export shipments included cement clinker and rice, while grain handling operations continued at multiple terminals.

On the import side, industrial raw materials such as rock phosphate and soybean seeds were processed at Port Qasim to support domestic production needs.

Operational Conditions

Port authorities reported that vessel movement continued despite high cargo volumes, with some ships awaiting berthing due to congestion linked to strong trade activity.

Officials noted that operations remain stable even as global shipping routes face uncertainty due to regional geopolitical developments.

Outlook

Maritime trade activity in Pakistan remains steady, with ports playing a key role in sustaining import and export flows. Authorities continue to monitor conditions to ensure smooth operations and efficient cargo handling.
