Gul Ahmed to Invest $230 Million in Pakistan’s Largest Data Centre Project

Quantum Global Data Centre (QGDC), a venture of the Gul Ahmed Energy Group, has announced plans to develop Pakistan’s largest Tier III data centre with an initial investment of $230 million.

According to the company, the facility is expected to become operational by 2027. The total investment could reach up to $600 million over the next three to four years as the project expands to meet rising demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital services in the country.

The announcement was made during the Q Summit, where QGDC also signed a strategic partnership with Huawei Pakistan. The collaboration aims to support the development of the data centre and establish a science and technology park to promote Pakistan’s digital transformation.

QGDC Chairman Danish Iqbal said Pakistan is still in the early stages of artificial intelligence adoption but already spends hundreds of millions of dollars annually on related technologies and services. He noted that demand for computing power is expected to grow rapidly as more sectors shift toward digital systems.

He warned that without strong local infrastructure, Pakistan could become increasingly dependent on foreign data and computing services. He emphasized that large-scale investment in data centres is essential to support future economic growth and technological development.

The project is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and help meet the growing needs of businesses, educational institutions, healthcare systems, and online platforms as they transition to cloud-based operations.
