Iran’s Supreme Leader Calls for Legal Action Over Civilian Casualties and Conflict
TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has called for legal action over what he described as violations of international law during recent regional conflicts, urging relevant authorities to pursue cases through both domestic and international legal channels.
The remarks were shared in a written message marking the anniversary of the 1981 bombing that killed senior Iranian judicial official Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti and several other political figures.
Call for Legal Proceedings
In his message, Khamenei said Iranian authorities should continue efforts to document and pursue legal cases related to damage caused during recent conflicts.
He stated that civilian casualties, attacks on public facilities and other incidents should be investigated through established legal processes.
According to the statement, Iranian institutions have been tasked with collecting evidence and pursuing the cases in accordance with national and international law.
Reference to Recent Conflicts
Khamenei’s message referred to the conflicts involving Iran in recent years, including the 2025 confrontation and the military escalation that began earlier this year.
He said the legal process should focus on alleged violations affecting civilians and public infrastructure, adding that accountability through legal institutions could help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Regional Tensions Continue
The latest comments come as tensions remain high following months of military exchanges involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
The conflict expanded across the region after military strikes earlier this year, leading to attacks on strategic facilities, disruptions to regional security and heightened diplomatic efforts.
A Pakistan-mediated ceasefire reached in April was followed by a memorandum of understanding signed in June aimed at reducing hostilities and encouraging dialogue.
Diplomatic Efforts Ongoing
Despite recent diplomatic initiatives, reports of renewed military activity and fresh accusations between the parties have raised concerns about the durability of the ceasefire.
Regional and international observers continue to monitor developments as diplomatic efforts seek to reduce tensions and encourage a lasting peaceful solution.
Iranian officials say they will continue pursuing legal avenues regarding claims linked to the recent conflicts, while the broader regional situation remains under close international attention.
