KP Introduces QR Code System for Instant Driving Licence Verification

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has launched a new digital driving licence verification system that enables instant authentication through QR codes, making licence verification faster and more convenient.

According to the Directorate of Transport, every newly issued driving licence will feature a unique QR code that links directly to an official online verification portal. By scanning the code, users and relevant authorities can instantly access and verify the licence holder’s information.

Digital Licence Available on Mobile Phones

Director of Transport Hassan Abid said the initiative also allows motorists to store an electronic driving licence (e-DL) on their smartphones.

The digital licence will be legally recognized and accepted across Pakistan, reducing the need for drivers to carry a physical licence card while traveling.

Improving Convenience and Transparency

Officials said the QR code verification system is part of the provincial government’s efforts to modernize public services, improve transparency, and simplify licence verification for both citizens and law enforcement agencies.

The digital system is expected to make verification quicker while helping reduce the risk of forged or altered driving licences.

Revenue Target for New Fiscal Year

The Directorate of Transport has also been assigned a revenue target of Rs. 550 million from driving licence fees during the current fiscal year as part of its administrative objectives.

The new QR-based verification system marks another step toward expanding digital public services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and improving access to government facilities through technology.
