Lahore Police Finalize Extensive Security Plan for Muharram

Lahore Police have completed comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, with special measures planned to ensure the safety of religious gatherings and processions across the city.

During a press briefing at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana announced that a three-tier security strategy will be implemented throughout Muharram. Senior police officials were also present at the briefing.

According to the security plan, authorities will provide security for 3,868 Majalis and 458 mourning processions scheduled across Lahore. The city is expected to host 457 A-category, 2,610 B-category, and 801 C-category Majalis, while security arrangements have also been made for 104 A-category, 308 B-category, and 46 C-category processions.

In addition, security coverage will be provided to 373 Imambargahs and 93 mosques throughout the provincial capital.

Enhanced Security Measures

Police officials stated that more than 100,000 security duties will be performed by officers and personnel on a rotational basis during Muharram. To strengthen monitoring and coordination, nine dedicated control rooms have been established to oversee operations around the clock.

Authorities have also developed a special traffic management plan to minimize disruptions and facilitate smooth movement for commuters and participants. Processions and religious gatherings will be monitored in real time through the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and district administration control rooms operating 24/7.

Crime Reduction and Enforcement Efforts

The CCPO highlighted improvements in the city’s law and order situation, stating that serious crime incidents have declined significantly compared to the previous year. He also noted that police have recovered and returned valuable property, including cash and other assets, to citizens during recent operations.

According to officials, a large number of pending case challans have been submitted to courts, while extensive operations against proclaimed offenders have resulted in numerous arrests across the city.

Technology to Support Security Operations

As part of the enhanced security framework, Lahore Police will utilize QR code-based systems and panic buttons at selected locations. Intelligence-based search and combing operations will continue throughout Muharram, while all field formations will remain on high alert.

Police authorities reiterated that approved routes and timings for processions must be strictly followed. Officials also emphasized that regulations regarding the use of loudspeakers will be enforced in accordance with existing laws.

The security plan aims to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens during Muharram while maintaining effective coordination between law enforcement agencies and local administration.
