UFC 330 Main Event Announced as Islam Makhachev Set for First Welterweight Title Defense

UFC CEO Dana White has officially announced the main event for UFC 330, confirming that welterweight champion Islam Makhachev will make the first defense of his title against rising contender Ian Machado Garry.

The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2026, at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, marking the UFC’s return to the city for the first time since 2019.

Makhachev Returns to Defend Welterweight Crown

Makhachev captured the UFC welterweight championship at UFC 322 and now prepares for his first title defense in one of the biggest fights of the year.

The Russian star enters the contest with an impressive professional record of 28 wins and just one loss. Since suffering his only defeat in 2015, Makhachev has established himself as one of the most dominant fighters in mixed martial arts.

His challenger, Ian Machado Garry, has quickly emerged as one of the top contenders in the division. The Irish fighter holds a professional record of 17-1 and will be looking to secure the biggest victory of his career by capturing UFC gold.

Co-Main Event Also Confirmed

The co-main event will feature a women’s championship bout as Mackenzie Dern defends her title against Gilian Robertson.

Dern won the championship in late 2025 and now prepares for her first title defense against Robertson, who has earned a title opportunity following a series of strong performances inside the Octagon.

UFC Returns to Philadelphia

Speaking about the event, Dana White expressed his excitement about bringing the UFC back to Philadelphia, highlighting the city’s passionate sports fans and strong support for combat sports events.

The promotion has not yet released the complete UFC 330 fight card, but the announcement of two championship bouts has already generated significant interest among MMA fans worldwide.

With a welterweight title showdown and a women’s championship fight on the lineup, UFC 330 is shaping up to be one of the organization’s most notable events of 2026.
