Managers Ready as Women’s Baseball World Cup Gets Underway in Rockford
The WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Rockford 2026, presented by RAXUS, officially began with a welcome reception in Rockford, Illinois, where team managers, tournament officials, and community leaders gathered ahead of the opening day of competition.
Six national teams—Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Mexico, and host nation USA—will compete over the next five days for three qualification spots in the Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2027, which will also be held in Rockford.
Teams Focused on Strong Performances
Managers from all participating nations expressed confidence in their squads and highlighted the continued growth of women’s baseball around the world.
USA
USA manager Mike Kinkade said his team’s goal is to compete at the highest level despite already qualifying automatically for the 2027 Finals as hosts.
He praised the dedication and work ethic of women’s baseball players and expressed confidence in his team’s preparation.
Canada
Canada manager Anthony Pluta described his squad as one of the strongest he has coached in recent years.
He said the team features talented and versatile players who earned their places through strong performances in Canada’s national championship.
Australia
Australia manager Jason Pospishil emphasized the importance of versatility and strong pitching in tournament play.
He noted that the selected roster provides flexibility and balance for the demanding competition schedule.
Hong Kong, China
Manager NG Yuk Ming praised the commitment and determination of his players, saying the team is eager to perform well on the international stage and continue its development.
Mexico
Mexico manager Ezequiel Buenrostro explained that the final squad was selected through a nationwide evaluation process involving players from across the country.
He believes the team has improved offensively and is prepared to compete against the tournament’s top-ranked nations.
Korea
Korea manager Cheol Young Park said his young squad is motivated to compete, with experienced players providing leadership throughout the tournament.
Opening Day Schedule
The tournament begins with three games on the opening day:
- Canada vs. Hong Kong, China – 11:00 AM
- Australia vs. Mexico – 3:00 PM
- USA vs. Korea – Evening Session
Each team has announced its expected starting pitcher as they prepare for the opening round.
Road to the Finals
The Group Rockford tournament runs through July 26, with the top three teams earning qualification for the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2027.
