Punjab Food Authority Seals Multiple Food Outlets in Lahore Over Hygiene Violations

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has carried out a major crackdown on food safety violations in Lahore, sealing several food outlets and taking strict enforcement actions against businesses involved in unsafe practices.

According to officials, inspection teams checked around 10 food units during the operation. As a result, multiple outlets were sealed, two individuals were arrested, and fines totaling Rs. 195,000 were imposed for violations related to poor hygiene, unlicensed production, and the sale of substandard food.

During the raids, authorities also seized a supplier vehicle allegedly transporting nearly 800 kilograms of used cooking oil and ghee. Additionally, around 50 kilograms of china salt and 40 liters of low-quality soda water were confiscated and destroyed to prevent public health risks.

Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that the seized vehicle was carrying used oil in a concealed manner, and the supplier failed to provide proper documentation. He further revealed that a soda water plant was shut down after its samples were found unsafe, with concerns over improper chemical usage.

A local Sajji restaurant was also sealed due to unhygienic conditions, while another unit was closed for operating without a valid food production license.

The PFA has reiterated its commitment to ensuring food safety and maintaining strict monitoring to protect public health. Officials emphasized that action against food adulteration and unsafe practices will continue across the province.
