Online Bike Riders Call for Further Reduction in Petrol Prices
Online bike riders and delivery workers have called for a further reduction in petrol prices, saying the recent decrease has not provided enough financial relief amid rising living costs.
The demand follows the government’s recent cut of Rs. 4 per litre in petrol prices during its latest fuel price review. However, riders say their daily expenses remain high, especially due to transportation costs.
Impact on Daily Earnings
Many riders explained that fuel expenses account for a large portion of their daily income. According to some workers, nearly half of their daily earnings are spent on petrol, leaving limited income for household needs and savings.
They added that despite long working hours, rising fuel costs continue to reduce their overall take-home income.
Working Conditions and Challenges
Riders also highlighted difficult working conditions, including long hours on the road in hot weather while waiting for ride requests or delivery orders.
They said increasing fuel prices combined with high living costs have created financial pressure for thousands of people working in the transport and delivery sector.
Demand for Relief
The riders urged authorities to consider further reductions in petrol prices, arguing that lower fuel costs would help improve their earnings and provide relief to households dependent on motorcycle-based transport services.
