Pakistan May See Extended 4-Day Holiday Break This Week

Government employees in Pakistan could experience a relatively longer break this week as public holidays for Muharram, combined with the weekend, may result in a four-day holiday period.

According to the official calendar, public holidays are expected on Thursday, June 25, and Friday, June 26, 2026, corresponding to 9th and 10th Muharram (Ashura).

Since these holidays fall close to the weekend, many employees working in government and semi-government departments are likely to enjoy a continuous break from Thursday through Sunday.

The extended holiday period is expected to reduce routine activity in government offices, educational institutions, and other public sector departments. Some public services may operate on limited schedules during this time.

However, essential services such as hospitals, emergency rescue services, and law enforcement agencies will continue to function normally to ensure public safety and support.

For many citizens, the break may provide an opportunity for rest, travel, or spending time with family during the holiday period.

Meanwhile, authorities are making special arrangements for Muharram, including enhanced security measures across the country to ensure peace and maintain law and order during processions and religious gatherings.
