Punjab Allocates Rs. 310 Million for ‘She Threads’ Initiative to Empower Rural Women
The Punjab government has approved an allocation of Rs. 310 million for the “She Threads” program, a skills development initiative focused on economic empowerment of rural women in the textile sector.
The program is aimed at women aged 18 to 45 from rural areas of Punjab who have at least a middle-level education. Participants will receive vocational training along with a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 and transport support during the training period.
Officials said the initiative includes multiple training courses related to the textile industry. These cover areas such as industrial stitching machine operations, fabric inspection, garment cutting and finishing, quality control, pattern making, merchandising, and production management.
According to the program details, training centers are already operating in cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Sheikhupura.
Authorities stated that around 2,500 women have completed training in the past two years, with several participants securing employment shortly after completion.
At present, more than 1,100 women are enrolled in ongoing training programs, while additional batches are expected to be trained in the coming year.
Officials said the initiative is designed to improve job opportunities for women in the textile industry and support long-term economic independence in rural communities.
The provincial leadership emphasized that skilled women can play an important role in strengthening the workforce and contributing to the country’s textile sector.
