Punjab Approves New Water Supply Project at Daducha Dam in Rawalpindi

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a major water supply project at Daducha Dam in Rawalpindi, aimed at improving access to clean drinking water for residents of the city.

The project includes the construction of a surface water treatment plant and a new water supply system. According to the Punjab Housing Department, the project is expected to be completed by December 2029.

Rs. 36 Billion Project

The overall cost of the project has been estimated at approximately Rs. 36 billion.

Under the plan, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will develop the required water supply infrastructure to support the treatment facility.

Officials said the project is expected to provide around 35 million gallons of treated water per day to Rawalpindi’s water supply network.

WASA to Develop Water Distribution Network

Following completion of the dam-related work, WASA will undertake the construction of transmission lines and the wider water distribution network.

The Punjab government expects the project to strengthen Rawalpindi’s water supply system and provide residents with a more reliable source of treated drinking water.

Officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve water infrastructure and meet the city’s growing demand for clean water.
