Punjab Extends Outdoor Drone Restrictions for Another 30 Days

The Punjab Home Department has extended restrictions on the use of drones in open areas across the province for another 30 days under Section 144.

According to a Home Department spokesperson, outdoor drone flights will remain prohibited across Punjab as part of measures aimed at addressing security concerns.

Limited Indoor Use Allowed

The department said limited use of small drones may be permitted at events held inside halls and marquees.

However, event organisers will be responsible for ensuring that drones are operated safely and in accordance with applicable rules.

Intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been excluded from the restriction.

Permission Available for Specific Activities

The Home Department has also established district-level Safe Drone Usage Committees.

Written permission may be issued for drone operations related to activities such as:

  • Agriculture
  • Irrigation
  • Research

Drones operating under valid written permission from the relevant committees will be exempt from the general restriction.

Authorities Directed to Implement Orders

The Secretary Home Punjab has imposed the restriction under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

District administrations and police have been instructed to ensure compliance with the order.

The Home Department said the measures are intended to support public safety, law and order, and the protection of property across Punjab.
