The Punjab Home Department has requested additional security support from the federal government for Muharram-ul-Haram 2026, seeking the deployment of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers personnel across various districts of the province.
According to officials, the request was submitted to the Ministry of Interior following recommendations from Punjab Police aimed at strengthening security arrangements during Muharram processions and religious gatherings.
The provincial government has requested a total of 137 companies for deployment in 39 districts. This includes 61 companies from the Pakistan Army and 76 companies from Pakistan Rangers Punjab.
Officials stated that the additional personnel would assist local law enforcement agencies in maintaining public safety and ensuring smooth security operations throughout the month.
In its communication to the federal government, the Home Department emphasized the importance of comprehensive security planning to support religious events and large public gatherings taking place during Muharram.
The proposed deployment covers several districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Attock, Sargodha, and others across Punjab.
Authorities said the objective is to enhance coordination among security institutions and facilitate peaceful observance of Muharram-related activities across the province.
Muharram is one of the most significant months in the Islamic calendar. During this period, religious gatherings, sermons, and processions are held in many parts of the country, requiring detailed administrative and security arrangements.
The federal government is expected to review the request and make a decision regarding the deployment of additional personnel in the coming weeks.
