Punjab Chief Minister Launches Eco-Friendly Hybrid Buses to Boost Tourism
The Punjab government is set to introduce modern and environmentally friendly transport options to enhance tourism across the province. In a move to promote sustainable travel, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the launch of five new hybrid double-decker buses on different routes in Lahore.
In addition to Lahore, a hybrid double-decker bus will also be introduced in Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi. Furthermore, the service is expected to expand to Multan and Faisalabad to promote tourism in these cities.
During the launch event, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally inspected one of the hybrid double-decker buses and took a ride. Officials briefed her on the features and routes of the service. According to the briefing, the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) initially launched the double-decker bus service in November 2015, during the tenure of former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
These buses are designed to cater to a wide range of passengers, including tourists, students, diplomats, corporate professionals, and the general public. The new Lahore routes will take passengers from Qaddafi Stadium to several major tourist attractions, providing an enjoyable way to explore the city.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of providing modern, eco-friendly buses to promote metropolitan tourism throughout Punjab.
In another significant tourism initiative, the Punjab government has also begun work on a glass train project. The 65-kilometre route will run between Rawalpindi and Bhurban in the scenic Murree region, offering passengers stunning views of areas such as the Margalla Hills and Barakahu.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the project, a task force has been formed, comprising officials from 18 departments, including the Punjab Transport Minister and the deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi and Murree.
With these eco-friendly and innovative transport solutions, Punjab is taking significant steps to boost tourism while prioritizing sustainability.
