WBSC Confirms Dates for U-18 Baseball World Cup 2027 in Pingtan, China

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has officially announced that the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2027, presented by RAXUS, will be held from September 17 to September 26, 2027, in Pingtan, China.
The tournament will bring together the world’s top under-18 national baseball teams to compete for the championship title. It will also mark the first time that Pingtan, an archipelago located in the Taiwan Strait, hosts a WBSC Baseball World Cup event.
Baseball World Cup Returns to China
The 2027 tournament will be the first WBSC Baseball World Cup hosted in Pingtan and follows China’s successful organization of the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup in 2024.
The U-18 Baseball World Cup is recognized as the world’s longest-running international youth baseball championship and has served as a platform for many players who later advanced to the highest levels of the sport.
Qualification Process
A total of 12 national teams will compete in the 2027 edition.
The qualification spots are allocated as follows:
- Africa: 1 team
- Americas: 4 teams
- Asia: 3 teams
- Europe: 2 teams
- Oceania: 1 team
- Host Nation/Wild Card: 1 team
European Qualifiers Completed
The qualification process has already begun.
The U-18 European Baseball Championship, hosted by the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS) in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region from July 13–19, 2026, determined Europe’s two representatives.
Italy and Germany secured qualification for the 2027 World Cup.
Upcoming Continental Qualifiers
The remaining qualification tournaments are scheduled as follows:
- Asia: BFA XIV U-18 Asian Baseball Championship in Taipei City (September 7–13, 2026)
- Americas: XVI U-18 Pan American Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (October 22–29, 2026)
- Oceania: Qualifying tournament hosted by Baseball Australia (December 9–13, 2026), with the venue to be announced
- Africa: Qualification details will be announced by WBSC Africa at a later date.
Tournament History
First held in 1981, the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup is the longest-running youth baseball world championship and has featured many athletes who later achieved success at the international level.
The United States enters the 2027 tournament as the defending champion after defeating Japan in the final of the 2025 edition held in Naha City, Okinawa.
Historically, the United States and Cuba are the most successful teams in the tournament, with 11 titles each. They are followed by:
- South Korea: 5 titles
- Chinese Taipei: 3 titles
- Japan: 1 title
- Canada: 1 title
The 2027 edition is expected to feature another competitive field as qualified teams from around the world compete for the U-18 world championship.
