WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Lima: Key Numbers Ahead of the Tournament

The WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage is set to begin in Lima, Peru, from July 14 to 18, bringing together six national teams competing for two places in the 2027 Finals. The tournament features world champions, Olympic gold medalists, rising young talent, and experienced veterans.

Here are some of the standout numbers ahead of Group Lima:

  • 6 teams will compete in Lima: Japan women’s national softball team, Great Britain women’s national softball team, Peru women’s national softball team, Philippines women’s national softball team, Puerto Rico women’s national softball team, and Venezuela women’s national softball team.
  • 2 qualification spots are available for the 2027 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals.
  • Japan enters the tournament as the world’s No. 1-ranked team and defending world champion, having won four Women’s Softball World Cup titles, the most among the participating nations.
  • Japan’s roster includes four Olympic gold medalists from the Tokyo 2020 Games: Yukiko Ueno, Yamato Fujita, Miu Goto, and Minori Naito.
  • A total of 96 athletes are expected to compete, with each team allowed to register up to 16 players.
  • The group stage schedule features 15 round-robin games, while 19 games will be played overall during the five-day event.
  • The participating teams have made a combined 53 Women’s Softball World Cup appearances and have collected 14 World Cup medals, including 13 won by Japan and one by the Philippines.
  • The tournament showcases both experience and youth. Japan’s veteran pitcher Yukiko Ueno, born in 1982, is the oldest player in the competition, while several of the youngest participants, including Peru’s Amina Larry, were born in 2010, creating a remarkable 28-year age gap.
  • The tournament will be held at the Villa María del Triunfo Softball Complex, which has a seating capacity of 2,000 spectators.
