11 Injured as School Van Catches Fire in Murree

At least 11 people, including several schoolchildren, were injured after a school van went off the road and caught fire in Murree on Tuesday.

According to Rescue 1122, the accident took place near Bara Hotar Link Road, where a Suzuki Bolan reportedly veered off the road before bursting into flames.

Rescue Teams Evacuate Passengers

Rescue personnel reached the location soon after the incident and safely evacuated the passengers from the burning vehicle.

The passengers were reportedly between four and 14 years old. Nine of the 11 injured individuals sustained burn injuries of varying degrees.

Murree police said the injured children were in stable condition. However, three children suffered serious burns, with one reportedly sustaining burns to 42% of the body, while two others suffered burns covering 38% and 26% of their bodies.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

Police said the exact cause of the accident and subsequent fire had not yet been established.

Authorities said an investigation would be conducted to determine what led to the incident, and legal proceedings would follow based on its findings.

Murree District Police Officer Raza Tanveer Sipra visited the hospital and reviewed the condition of the injured children.

He said police were maintaining contact with the relevant authorities to ensure the injured received appropriate medical treatment, including care for those referred to other hospitals.

Punjab CM Seeks Incident Report

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed officials to submit a report on the incident.

She also took notice of concerns regarding vehicle overloading and inadequate fire safety arrangements, directing authorities to examine these issues as part of the response to the incident.
