Dar meets Xi ahead of SCO foreign ministers’ meeting in China

Ishaq Dar Meets Chinese President Xi Jinping During SCO Visit

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday, as part of his participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ joint call.


Strengthening Pakistan-China Relations

Sharing details of the meeting on social media platform X, Ishaq Dar said he was “delighted” to meet President Xi at the Great Hall of the People. He conveyed the warm greetings of the Pakistani leadership and reiterated the strong ties between the two countries.

“As iron-clad brothers and all-weather strategic cooperative partners, we remain committed to deepening the Pakistan-China friendship and advancing shared regional goals,” Dar posted.


Focus on Regional Cooperation

President Xi, while addressing the SCO foreign ministers, highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and collective development under the SCO framework. The meeting marks a lead-up to the annual SCO Summit, scheduled to be held in Tianjin this autumn.


Pakistan’s Participation in SCO Council of Foreign Ministers

Following the meeting in Beijing, Ishaq Dar travelled to Tianjin to lead Pakistan’s delegation at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers gathering. The Deputy Prime Minister was received upon arrival by senior Chinese and Pakistani officials, including:

  • Ambassador Yu Hong of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil ur Rehman Hashmi


Bilateral Meetings with SCO Member States

On the sidelines of the SCO meetings, Ishaq Dar held several bilateral discussions with foreign ministers from member countries, including:

  • Iran, Uzbekistan, and Belarus – with a focus on boosting regional understanding and cooperation

  • Kazakhstan’s FM Murat Nurtleu and Kyrgyzstan’s FM Zheenbek Moldokanovic – where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and explore collaboration across key areas

The meetings served as a platform to advance economic, diplomatic, and strategic interests through enhanced regional dialogue.


Looking Ahead

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Ishaq Dar will continue to hold bilateral engagements with his counterparts during his visit to China, underscoring Pakistan’s active role in regional diplomacy under the SCO.
