Transporters Announce Nationwide Wheel-Jam Strike

Nationwide Wheel-Jam Strike Announced by Pakistan Transport Council for July 19

The Pakistan Transport Council has officially announced a nationwide wheel-jam strike scheduled for July 19, 2025, in response to recent taxation policies affecting the transport sector.

Transport Services to Halt in Protest

Council President Tanveer Ahmad Jutt stated that transporters from across the country will suspend operations until their concerns are addressed. The strike aims to protest the recently imposed 6% tax on the transport sector, which the Council considers burdensome and unfair.

Standing with the Business Community

Jutt emphasized the transport sector’s solidarity with the wider business community, many of whom have also expressed concern over recent tax hikes. He reiterated that the strike will continue until the government reconsiders the tax policy and takes steps to support the industry.

Concerns Over Economic Impact

According to Jutt, current policies have already affected Pakistan’s import and export operations, putting additional pressure on businesses and logistics providers. He urged the government to engage in dialogue with stakeholders to find a workable solution.

A Call for Policy Reform

Transporters have voiced growing frustration over what they view as policy mismanagement. The Council’s leadership stated that the sector has been under increasing financial pressure and now seeks a more balanced approach from authorities to ensure economic stability.
