Resolution Submitted in Punjab Assembly to Ban Styling of Beards

Punjab Assembly Member Proposes Nationwide Ban on Beard Styling

A resolution has been introduced in the Punjab Assembly by PML-N lawmaker Rukhsana Kausar, calling for a nationwide ban on styling or designing beards.

The resolution emphasizes that the beard is a revered Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and describes altering it into fashionable styles as disrespectful and a serious violation of Islamic values. It argues that beard styling mocks religious traditions and contradicts Islamic teachings.

Call for Legal Action Against Barbers and Clients

The resolution urges the federal government to enact strict laws prohibiting beard styling, including legal penalties for both those who style their beards and the barbers or salons that provide such services.

Rukhsana Kausar stated that such measures are essential to preserve religious norms and safeguard Islamic traditions from being distorted under the guise of fashion.

Repeated Concerns Raised

This is not the first time the MPA has raised this issue; a similar resolution was submitted by her in July 2020, reflecting ongoing concerns about the practice.
